MORIAH

Written on one of my trips to Israel where I stood on Mt. Moriah and contemplated its vast, complicated history.
Words tumble down to the foot of Moriah
Loosed by an avalanche of faith;
Transformed into building blocks;
Broken, uneven, mortared together
By questioning generations.
My ears hear answers in the multitude
Of centuries that peel away the
Miracle of existence.
I clench rocks at the foot of Moriah.
Flint cuts my flesh as words pierce my soul.
For a brief moment
My blood ignites with the fire
Aaron’s sons spilled upon the altar.

There are so powerful feelings behind these lines..., but the ending hides more than history, it's sacred.
