Pluberry couldn't THINK where Pluddle had got to.
She had been wondering and wandering for AGES playing her pink harp for
her fluffy green dog but he hadn't come back.
She was beginning to feel hungry. It was nearly lunchtime! Where COULD
he be???
"PLUDDLE, PLUDDLE!" she called
Suddenly there was a little door. "Gosh!" thought Pluberry, "I've never
seen THAT before! I wonder where it goes?"
Carefully she tucked her harp under her arm and turned the little
door's handle.
"CREEEEEEEEEK" went the little door as it opened "OOOOOOOh!" went
Pluberry as she looked through the open little door. " I wonder if this
is where Pluddle has got to? PLUDDLE, PLUDDLE!" Pluberry called
Pluberry heard a little tiny bark. She knew it must come from very far
away because Pluddle had great BIG barks when he was near.
"Oh DEAR" said Pluberry, "What DO I DO?" On her side of the little door
was Plumland, with purple grass and pink sky and red trees with blue
apples. And on the other side of the little door was a place with green
grass and blue sky and brown trees with red apples. Pluberry had never
left Plumland before, and she was a little bit scared. But then Pluddle
barked again, and it was such a HAPPY bark, Pluberry wanted to play
with him, so she drew a DEEEEEP breath, and WRIGGLED through the little
door.
Pluberry took a few steps then looked back to make sure the little door
was still there because she wanted to be able to get home again, but
then she laughed, because do you know what? There were PURPLE
FOOTPRINTS following her from the door! Pluberry thought this was very
funny, and she did a little dance
and every time she put a foot on the green grass she made ANOTHER
purple footprint!
Then she remembered about finding Pluddle, and she set off to look for
him.
Pluberry was glad she was wearing her purple raincoat and her red
wellies because Pluddle would be able to see her, but she couldn't see
HIM.
Pluberry followed the sound of Pluddle's happy barks and soon she came
to a little space in the trees. Pluddle's barks were really quite big
now
"Pluddle, are you here?" asked Pluberry
"yep!" said Pluddle
"But I can't SEE you!" said Pluberry "Are you SURE you're here,
Pluddle?"
"yep, yep!" said Pluddle
Pluberry looked round... No Pluddle. She looked down... No Pluddle.
Then she looked UP, and THERE was Pluddle! Pluddle was FLYING!
"WOW!" said Pluberry "Can I fly too?"
"yep!" said Pluddle doing a loop the loop
"HOW?" asked Pluberry, jumping up and down, "Will you show me,
Pluddle?"
"yep" said Pluddle, and he floated gently to the ground then skipped
light as a feather to a prickly bush with lots of purply
blackberries
on. Pluberry watched carefully as Pluddle sniffed out a nice big berry
and SLURP gobbled it up! And then UP went Pluddle, wagging his
tail.
Pluberry couldn't WAIT to fly too! She found a nice big berry and
popped it in her mouth. It was SOOOOO sweet and yummy and purple juicy
she just HAD to have another...and ANOTHER another but before Pluberry
could have another another another, guess what? SHE WAS FLYING
TOO!
"OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!" said Pluberry, "This IS fun!" She waggled her left
leg and went right, she waggled her right leg and went left,
she lifted her arms and went up, she bent over and swooped down
"OOOooooooooohhhhh! This is like dancing but SO MUCH BETTER! Would you
like me to play a tune for us to dance to Pluddle?"
"yep!" said Pluddle, so Pluberry began to play a tune, and all at once,
the air was full of beautiful orange butterflies who had come to listen
to Pluberry's music
Pluberry and Pluddle and the butterflies had SUCH a lovely afternoon!
Every time anyone felt a little bit tired they would float down to the
blackberries and eat one and then they'd float back up to do an even
more wonderful dance
But in the end the butterflies had to go home because they didn't want
to be out when the sun had gone in, so Pluberry and Pluddle said
goodbye and then Pluberry thought she and Pluddle had better go home
too, so off they flew through the brown apple trees with the red apples
following Pluberry's purple footprints on the green grass
And there was the little door, and through the little door was
Plumland, and although Pluberry and Pluddle had had a LOVELY day they
were glad to be able to go home now because though blackberries are
very tasty they don't really stop you being hungry, and Pluberry and
Pluddle were so VERY hungry now!
Pluddle landed first and squeezed through the little door. But when
Pluberry landed on the green grass she looked up at the blue sky. "I
wonder if we shall come here again?" she said
and then she wriggled through the little door too. Now there was purple
grass and pink sky and red trees with blue apples. Pluberry turned
round to make sure the little door was still there, but
"OH!" it had GONE!
"Pluberry, PLUBERRY!"
"COMING!" said Pluberry
and she ran home without looking back
And when she got home her Mum was waiting at the door and Pluberry's
Mum said "Pluberry, where HAVE you been? You and Pluddle have left
GREEN FOOTPRINTS ALL ALONG THE PATH!"
