A Passage of Deceit

Okay, so I buy freezer bags and "Family Packs" of chicken
Placing a single thigh or plump breast
Into each of the quart-sized plastic baggies -- looking ever so alone
with so much space left to be filled -- I really should buy a smaller
size
There's only one of me after all
I don't need much in the way of sustenance
Okay, so it would be nice if just once I had to take two
Breasts out of the deep freeze to defrost on my counter top
Because someone was joining me for the evening
There's something to that whole sharing a meal thing
But I don't really "need" company
Okay, so I often think of "you"
The universal you who would sit beside me at this table for two
Talking between swallows and listening between chews
Okay, so none of that is true...
Well, I do buy "Family Packs" of thigh and breast
I do pack them individually into Glad Zip-Lock Freezer Bags
I do thaw them and cook them and consume them one at a time savoring
every delicious bite
I do crave company... however...
I do think of you... however...
But only the "real" you
Never the "universal" you
That part never happens ...
