Locked Hearts

I finally raised my head to look at him. Although his bruised and scratched face, was not at it’s best. The war had been harsh on him, and many like him. Relentless and ready to tear apart families and rip out hearts that it chose to claim.
Just seeing him in this state was enough to make my eyes swell with tears.
”You’re not going to go back out there are you?” I questioned, but with no reply. “I’m sure they’ll be fine with out you, there really is no need for you to fight in this war.” A very selfish sentence, I was sentencing others to death in order to let him live. But my heart and mind were consumed with love for him, I couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to see him anymore.
But still, no reply.
I hung my head low and a tear slid down my face. “Will you ever take your armour of to me?”
“ I have taken my armour off to you many times.” He finaly replied, but minding his own business not even looking my way.
”no, I mean the armour you have around your heart.”
”my heart is no concern of yours.” He added shallowly.
what could possibly have happened that could scar his heart and soul so deeply, that they would shut themselves away just so nothing else could get the chance to do it again?
