Still Awake

I woke up sweating.
The inner chorus and comments thereof
Ringing in ears and through hair.
Washed hair, rinsed and dried
Though damp with true horror
And screaming birds
Deafening eagles screaming at me
To wake up and find myself
My knees shook
My elbows ached
A cobra of comfort
Entwined at my feet
Left useless and fragile
As a tremble shook forcefully
Through my body
A snake wrapped around a tree
Of amusement and macabre
Whispering to me
And embedding riddles
Into my diminishing brain
And corrupting my thought
Yes, the animals will know
They will see to my pain
And torture it into happiness
But with anguish and terror
They climb back down my throat
And leave me gasping...
Gasping...
The sixth hour of torment
Leaves me pulling strands
And weaving them into nightmares
A dry mouth croaks in agony
As my head spins
On its axis
The fifth awakening
Soft in good hands
But still shaking
Like leaves
In a blustery shower
The fourth time comforted
By a resting companion
The knees begin to
Return
Three sins wavering
Amongst circling bats
But falling...
Two o clock in the morning
The day's not even dawning
I'm still awake.
