On Kingsway Road,
we stood
lining outside the door,
curving into the street.
I breathed in your brown leather jacket,
and nearby, Doris and Sandra stood guard
until we were inside -
Douglas would never know.
You and I,
we sat
until you turned to me
your jacket, smothering.
And I heard Sandra whisper behind me,
into darkness -
"They're kissing."
Brighton keeps you now
I, forgotten.
And Douglas -
I do not know who keeps him.
