The Newcomer

He arrived on campus the sixth day after university opened that year, looking considerably brown after his summer in Nelson. He was tall and lank with dark messy hair and glasses. He had light muscles bulging from within his shirt, giving away the secret of his desperate workout. But what struck me most about him was his eyes, his wonderful green eyes moulding into an inlaid brown, like a pair of shining jewels shining in the darkness.
Somehow, he ended up in my second year psychology class, sitting behind me and raising his hand more than was normal of one person in one class. He was rarely incorrect; moreover, the teacher loved him. Initially this angered me, for I was the geek; the much-envied student who knew all the answers. But soon I felt myself drawn to him like we shared a connection. Maybe we did.
