A Humpback Whale

The Humpback whale sings
to shadowy neighbours
as she navigates
the Gerlache Strait,
no wait for any fateful collision,
she, unearthly, calls for connection
as I do, as I do.
Negotiates brute steel obstacles, nets,
past icebergs,
past drowned hopes
as I do, as I do.
Still she gathers in conventions,
superlunary,
blowing bubbles,
blowing skyward.
Big wings and tails ecstatic,
coursing deep blue,
observing with eyes that see
and do not see,
of knowing and unknowing.
