A small, solitary figure stands on the side walk, half-hidden by the
dark alleyway.
His silhouette stands out in the moonlit street, which is all but
deserted.
Shadows flicker here and there and you can hear the light tap of the
rain as it patters on the nearby buildings, creating droplets that run
down the window panes.
The man wears a hat which hides his face and a long, black coat which
is camouflaged by the dark night. He stands silent, one hand in his
pocket, a briefcase by his side. Watching, waiting as the rain
continues to pour overhead.
Sheltered under a huge canopy which protudes from a nearby
building.
There is a sudden, loud screech nearby, followed by a crash as a
garbage can is knocked over. The sound startles him and he jumps round
in time to see a flash of grey streak past him. It is only a stray cat.
He curses silently and resumes his stance.
He fumbles round in his pocket for a cigarette and lights it nervously,
hands shaking as he takes a puff, trying to get some warmth.
He hears footsteps echoing in the silence of the dark alleyway. They
sound like they're coming towards him. The sound gets louder and
reverberates off the stone walls, as the footsteps get closer.
He can just about make out two large, dark shadows in the half-light of
an overhead street lamp, some distance away, as they approach.
He takes one last, long puff of his cigarette and hastily puts it out.
He glances worriedly at the street light as it begins to flicker but
there's nothing he can do. He steals a look at his watch...it's half
past one.
He hears low, rough voices...
1:'You reckon he's gonna be there, guv'nor?'
Boss 2:'Well he better be or else...'
1:'Whatcha going to do?'
The second guy sticks his hand out to silence no.1
'well, well, well...look who we have here?'The Boss sneers as he steps
out into the streetlight...
'You finally decided to show up, eh?'
A second figure steps forward beating his fist into his palm, an evil
grin spread across his face.
The man shifts nervously, a look of unease spread across his face.
