A Short Walk Round The Block

Here on the hilltop you’ll find me
The air clear above my head
High above the clamour of the city
Cars, streetlights, pensioners close to dead
Screaming child, wailing mother
Here in the riverboat you’ll find me
The water parting in my wake
Lets me forget so carelessly
Your voice so hard to shake
Gone once but not forever
Here on my bike you’ll find me
Easing along the old airport track
The dirt blurs below my bare knee
Maybe I’ll never go back
But I will, you know I will
Oh, it won’t take long to find me,
A short walk round the block
Is all it’ll take to set you free
But I know it’s easy to mock
So constrict me, hem me up
So here in my room you’ll find me
Wrapped up, unfeeling, dead
Thoughts buzz round wastefully
A skinny body full of lead
And if it shows then let me know
If it shows then let me know.
