Happy Ending

A little spider toddles by
to check his web for scrumptious fly.
His tummy rumbles - dinner time
but no luck yet, he sucks a lime.
A gin and tonic while he waits
for insect rissole, on his plate...
Desperation starts to dawn,
hallucinates for peas and corn
or anything to stuff his face -
he'd gobble up without a trace.
All is not lost, he lifts the 'phone
to dial for pizza to his home.
Fat and sated, now he rests
with crumbs of cheese upon his chest.
Hiccs and burps invade the air -
he falls asleep under the chair.
While spider snores, his breakfast lands
and gets entwined in silken strands.
But in the morning, spider's full
and wisps of web he starts to pull
to free the fly that's trapped within
(he still has grease upon his chin.)
"Be off, dear Fly - go, fly away.
Another time you'll make my day!"
