His bed is hard, his mattress rough.
His room is small, his life is tough.
She is loved and liked by many.
She has a caring family.
He has no friends - loved by no-one.
He has no daughter, nor a son.
She feels no loss, she feels no pain.
She never will feel hurt again.
He lives a life of constant dread.
Each day he fears he'll end up dead.
Her ageless face shows not her years.
She has no worries and no fears.
His clothes are old and stained and torn.
Each day his face becomes more worn.
She sleeps soundly through the night
As she lies all dressed in white.
He cannot sleep with all the noise;
The shouting men and screaming boys.
She does no work, just lies around
And rests in peace, all safe and sound.
Eighteen more years he must survive.
Of his sentence he's served five.
Her sentence? More than twenty-three.
Her sentence was eternity.
