Xylem

The xylem is a complex tissue.
Bundled secretively,
Grown
But if I knew nothing of how
the water drifted,
I would still walk in a
shroud of grace
and the deepest green night air
of Indian dreams would still
unfold,
in the misted darkness
barely touched by moon,
unknown
and I would still fly through the
peacock gardens.

Still crushing jewelled grass with
divine feet.
If I knew nothing of science
and did not speculate,
I would not be left
behind in some obscure
rhythm, out of time.
I would remain
where I am now
immersed without
vascular knowlege
woven into the lattice
