The Year of 66

66 was a golden year
We went about without any fear
I met a lass and made her my wife
That was the start of a happy life
In time she gave me a baby boy
That lass was my loving joy
And later another boy came along
I could see he would be big and strong
We worked all hours that God did send
So we all had something to spend
A third boy came along
But it wasn't for us to have him long
We lost him to an awful illness
There was for us a terrible stillness
We overcame those awful fears
With many secret tears
My wife and I moved well away
And did'nt return for many a day
But when we did we had a daughter
And thanked the Lord who had brought her
But when we left there were lights and a pier
And when we returned we found nothing but fear
No Odeon, Arcadian or Empire too
Plaza, Palladium but to name just a few
No landaus all sparkling with horses four
Or charabancs gleaming taking you door to door
It's sad to see a once happy place
Turn into a sad disgrace
I feel it should be heeded
That a change to Morecambe is needed
It needs people that have panache
To give the good old town some cash
Make living here a happier place
And make something out of the run down disgrace.
