She is wearing her best silk dress
the green one – with the temperamental zip.
Tidying her make-up she sprays Dior
in places, it probably shouldn’t go.
She remembers he likes a fine, cooled glass
of Chardonnay
along with Tracy Chapman singing
‘baby can I hold you tonight'’ soft playing
sending shivers down her spine.He will arrive perfectly attired
white linen shirt top button undone
he always does casual - so wonderfully well.You haven’t changed, his eyes will tell her
with a cool reassurance meant to disarm.
She will smile, staring over the rim
of her glass, before replying straight into his eyes
Neither have you – you never fail
to tell, a damn good lie.He will mention having booked a room
and asks her if she would like him to go.She hesitates over her reply, before
changing her position
and turning out -the bedside light...
