PLAYLAND

"The pupil with the most completed work this term is David Jenkins", I
felt my face go red with embarrassment as I collected my certificate in
front of all the school. I always try to avoid fuss and usually just go
on my computer or visit old man spires, he lived on his own after his
wife died 10 years before, some people said old man spires was weird
but I think he is OK and fun to be around.
I was walking home from school two weeks later when old man spires, who
only lived 10 minutes away from my house called me, I went over to see
what he wanted, I sometimes fetched some groceries for him after school.
"David look what I have" he said with his eyes wide open. and a smile so big i thought his face would burst.I did not
know what to expect to see, as old man spires would often show me
things he had found while being in the navy during the second world
war, I was only 13 but found the war stories fascinated, it was nice to
hear it off some one who had actually been there instead of reading it
from a text book." David look" I could not believe my eyes when old man
spires held up this beautiful looking gold box that had ancient writing
all around the bottom of the box. It was only the size of my two hands
put together but it was beautiful, old man spires said he had found the
box in Russia just after the war had ended, in an old house which
belonged to a fortune teller called Olga Petrovna, "but no one
believed she had talent" said old man spires. Just at that moment my
little sister Jessica came over to tell me my tea was done.
After tea which seemed liked hours not minutes, I could not hold back much
longer, I went back to old man spires house to have a look in the box,
"according to the writing on the box, it should not be opened" said old
man spires. The suspense was too much for me, so When Mr Spires I really like to call him as he was so nice, had turned away to get a drink of squash for me,I peeked round the kitchen door and then ran fast as I could back to box and knocked the box off the coffee table, which
opened the box; suddenly a flashing blue light came out of the box
straight towards me.
Mr spires Mr spires I called out several times but no answer, then I
saw 6 or 7 children of my own age going into a giant looking football
made out of marshmallows, I shook my head again and rubbed my eyes, was
it a dream? At that point a happy looking girl came towards me and said
"welcome to playland, my name is Anna" "playland, what is this place" I
said. "Playland where all the children can enjoy playing games, meeting
other children and have fun without school work or any adults around"
she said with her beaming bright smile, she grabbed my hand and took me
to the entrance of the ball, it was massive I thought, "come on David,
you only have a short time left" you know my name", "yes of course, I
know every ones name". We went deeper and deeper into
this giant ball, all around the walls were different kinds of sweets,
and some I had never seen before. Anna told me that first time visitors
had only one hour to play and then two hours next time.
as long as I told no adults. Then I saw a big bike that looked more like something out of star wars, it had a
seat big enough to get four people in it, the handle bars were big and
one had a power gun on it, that would automatically dispense sweets, it
also had a silver computer built in the back, which would dispense any
drink I wanted, " I like this ride Anna" I then played on a game which
was cool because it only needed 1 player and I only had to tell it what
to do and it did it for me. Anna then showed me some other children who
were playing a game, they all held hands and did not move unless they
got a question right, then the one who got the question right could
have another half hour play time. I felt so happy playing with children
of my own age and not on my computer all of the time. Anna showed me
funny looking object, it looked like a dog, it had big droopy ears and
a little tail with buttons on the front of it's head, "it's magical
Anna" I turned around and Anna had gone, all of a sudden a belt
strapped me in and I was flying through the air, it was fast but
exciting, then out of no where came a flashing green light and I blacked out, when I can round I was dazed unsure if i had a dream or actually been through this amazing trip!!!
