The elements of life

I can see life passing,
in a never ending stream.
I am wading in the water,
where the coldness is extreme.
Far beneath the surface
I sense the currents deep,
they magnatise the water,
threatening the endless sleep.
So I concentrate on passing
all the boulders and loose rocks,
and as I climb up into safety
I’m slightly bruised from all the knocks.
Then I sit in contemplation,
at the passage and the price,
for traversing all these currents
I don’t want to do this twice.
Is the pupose of this passage,
just to cross the stream of life?
To place one foot before the other
and to deal with any strife?
As I contemplate my journey
a symbol it is there,
One half in the water,
the other in the air.
This journey is not one
where you choose the sea or air,
It’s a journey where its vital
that all the elements are there.
So where’s the fire within this story?
We’ve had water, earth and air.
It’s in the sky so far above you,
you can forget that it is there.
