I have a little secret

I have a little secret,
it’s difficult to tell.
For I have kept it hidden
very, very well.
I have hidden it from family
from peers and from all men.
It has been a good companion
and become a trusted friend.
But I feel the words approaching
from a place that’s far away.
As if they’re marching on a journey
and they’re going to have their say.
But the words that form are misty
I cannot ascertain,
what the mystery was within me
that drives me all the same.
Is it ambition or devotion
or attraction to a cause?
A distraction that I’ve followed
to avoid a silent pause?
As I scour the distant landscape
looking for a lighted sign.
I realise that the secret
that I’ve hidden was not mine.
For I’ve held so close within me
so much love and so much light.
I have preserved it all in darkness,
well hidden, out of sight.
But the bonds of fear are loosening
they snap and struggle free.
As i understand the secret
has been hidden most from me.
For the love and light we carry
is not finite, or of man.
Its the never ending firestorm
from the time the world began.
We cannot tame a portion,
like we cannot tame the sea.
But we are free to choose a union
that can truly makes us free.
Free from limitation and
from fear that limits most.
Free from expectations
and the shadows of past ghosts.
In the land of light and colour
possibilities abound.
It is timeless, and expansive
and echoes just one sound.
But the door is very narrow,
no baggage is allowed.
For there’s everything you need here,
no reason to be proud.
Those who enter are courageous
they have travelled long and far.
They’ve journeyed through harsh landscapes
towards that one bright star.
