The secret's in the packing

I am told that love surrounds me,
those words they warm my heart.
But the challenge that’s within them
is harder to impart.

For if the love I’m feeling,
is as strong as I believe.
Then why do I keep fighting
for peace I can’t achieve?

I cannot change perception
or halt the gossip’s chatter.
But I can walk my own path,
and decide what doesn’t matter.

For what matters has come clear now,
It’s not one part, it is the whole.
That must align behind my purpose.
It takes it all to reach my goal.

All attempts to feel unworthy,
or to leave some parts behind.
Have seen my journey falter
and my progress just unwind.

It seems the secret’s in the packing
of the suitcase for your trip.
Leave nothing in the darkness,
place not your rubbish in the skip.

The skill is in selecting all
those things you must forgive.
And facing all those feelings,
that have long held you captive.

Once you’re down to bare essentials
place them all within the light.
For their value and their learning
is what makes you walk upright.
