Chapter 8
Cyber Soul
Still deceived by the Company’s lie, Josh Macon and a half -dozen office workers gathered round Kian and Penny, they saw no weapon so they assumed forcing out them of the Hub would be easy. They were quite wrong.
Even with his attention focused on Penny, Kian still managed to hear them running his way. He jumped up and held up his hands. “Guys don’t, I’m your friend, believe me.”
Refusing to listen, they were on him before he could say another word. He shook his head as Josh and two other men grabbed his arms and twisted them behind his back. Penny screamed. “Leave him alone!”
They weren’t listening. Kian trying his best to stay on his feet as more people piled against him finally slammed against the floor. Unharmed and feeling no pain, Kian still resisted the urge to fling his assailants aside as if they were paper cups. Penny however did not know this. Overwhelmed by the sight of her friend’s pitiful plight she flung herself at his assailants, kicking, clawing and punching at the writhing crush of people as they pinned Kian to the floor.
Unfortunately, Kian did not realize she was defending him until one of the men shoved her against the wall. They could not hurt him, but they could certainly hurt her. The time for restraint was over. With nothing more than a thought, he flung them against the ceiling pinning them there with nothing more than his will.
In an instant, he levitated from the floor lifting Penny up with him. Reaching out to her with his right arm, he drew her to his side telekinetically. She stared at him with wide -eyed delight.
“You wanted a show,” his voice boomed like thunder, “well you have one!” Swinging around on nothing than invisible will he and Penny circled the room. His attackers stuck to ceiling unable to move, while the other huddled beneath their desks.
“I am your friend. This girl is my charge. You are will not attack her or me. Do you understand?”
No one spoke.
“Do you understand,” he yelled so loudly the dome shivered.
“Yes, yes, we do,” they yelled back terrified for their lives.
“Now, I am allowing you to help me tell the workers about me and my benevolence toward them and you. I do not have to, but I want us to respect and appreciate each other. We must work together. I am not your God, nor do I want to be, you must understand this. Do you understand?”
They all looked at each other, as a wave of relaxation rippled through the across the room. Nodding and smiling all of them said yes.
“Good, I imagine there is a going to be a mass migration to Earth. I can fabricate ships by force of will. We have plenty of energy and materials. I know we have pilots and crewmen. Those so-called Karkin attacks were real, in fact so are the Karkins, yes they are just like the Chimerans, biological constructs. They can help after I have reeducated them. The point is there is much to do and I want your help. Will you help me, or must I ignore you and find others who will?”
“Ignore us,” Josh asked.
“I’m not forcing anyone to do anything. But I will marginalize you. Leave you here to vegetate and make you prisoners of your own obstinacy. Is that what you want?”
“No,” said Josh as he and the others slowly drifted back to the floor, “I don’t want that.”
“Me neither,” Said Kathy, then, being a reporter she had to ask, “What are you? I never seen anything, I mean anyone like you?”
“Of course I owe you all an explanation. I am a thought projector. Your leaders have been monitoring my thoughts since my birth. I died on Earth over 4000 years ago but my soul came here to your leaders monitoring device. They made me a Chimeran body and sent me back to new Earth, Chimera. But they were evil and cruel. They killed me, but I continued to live outside my body and eventually took your main computer. In fact, I am the computer. I now control the vast ocean of facilitator Nano bots swarming over Earth and the moon. They are my body and a perfect extension of my will. I used them to destroy the technocrats. But you should not fear me. I’m determined to save you.”
“We can really go Earth?” Kathy asked.
Kian smiled and nodded yes. “Had the company been honest with you could have gone to Earth long ago, you could have even been born or Earth. I do have one question. Will you share Earth with the Chimerans, treat them as your equal, trust and respect them?”
Josh scratched his head and looked back at the others. They all shrugged, unsure what to say.
“We’ve been watching at the mind movies since we were kids,” he began, “now you’re telling me they are real. That’s a lot to swallow in one big gulp.”
Kian cupped a loving hand around the back of Penny’s head. “She was once a mermaid. The company killed her parents after they forced this new body on her. She is as much human as you are, she has always been human, can you accept that?” Kian said he and Penny eased down to the floor.
Kathy walked up to Penny. Penny stepped toward her as Kathy took her hand. “This is wonderful,” Kathy said, “of course we can accept them. I have to tell everyone.”
“Well that’s why I’m here.” Kian stated. Kathy drew Penny to her breast and hugged her.
“I’m sorry Penny for before,” Kathy said, “can you forgive me. We were scared, scared of the company. They made bad things happen to anyone that who dared stand up to them. We all knew but we were at their mercy, so we did nothing. We were cowards. ”
“No, “said Penny, “fear is not cowardice.”
“Are you sure you’re just a kid,” Kathy asked.
“A kid,” Penny smiled pulled away as she slid back under Kian’s arm, “yeah, I guess I am, but it looks like we all have some growing up to do.”
Kian leaned over and kissed her on the cheek…
Kia and Alex lay beneath a cold thin sheet of morning dew. Exhausted, they slept until the sun rose and something else slid over them-two shadows.
“They still need sleep?” The longer of the two shadows said.
“Unexpected,” Said the shorter shadow.
The sound of a woman’s voice invaded her dreams. It did not fit. It came from above, outside. She grunted and twisted on the ground, wringing the sleep from her body. The shadow slid back but not away. “She’s waking up Micah, we should go. They seem fine.”
“Are you afraid, Nessa,” a tall man dressed in beige pants a knee length tunic and black boots asked as he offered his hand to Nessa, a petite young blonde-haired woman dressed in the same uniform he was.
“A little,” she replied, she was about to speak again when Kia sat up and grabbed Alex’s arm when she saw they were not alone.
“Who are you,” she asked, shrinking against him as she spoke. “Alex, wake up!”
The sound of rushing air filled the cool morning air as Alex sucked in a deep breath, yawned and looked around, saw the two strange people jumped up and snatched Kia behind him.
Micah smiled pulling Nessa to his side, “We can’t hurt you Alex, or you Kia. We would never want to do either of you any harm. You are after all our handiwork.”
“What,” Kia asked as she and Alex backed further away. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
“We are Terrans we came from the crystal sphere,” said Micah, “we only want to see you, see our handiwork. Your welfare is of utmost importance to us.”
“What,” Kia asked, “What are you talking about? There was no one in the sphere.”
“The sphere is only the threshold, our world lies just beyond it, or did. Thanks to your husband, we can walk the Earth again and rejoice in the sunlight. Our enemies are dead. Your husband killed them and in so doing, we are now free.”
“My husband,” Kia asked already knowing the answer.
“Yes, Kian the liberator, Kian our savior, Kian your husband….”
