lower the blinds
the moon should not see
this cheap electric light.
harsh disdain pools yellow all around
anticipating the shrill ring of the telephone
bleak words startle us awake.
blurred and hazy.
lower the blinds
the sun should not see
the darkness
touching us.
sparkling and fretful
autumnal frost
crawls slowly over the last
bright petals
melting into dew.
warmed golden.
the cord severed
this newborn swallows
chest expanding,
mouth
instinctively suckles
crumpled red and blue limbs
jerk against this
harsh electric light.
