Fireworks (IP)

Bonfire hot, guy alight,
brightening up the pitch-dark night,
candles fizzing,
rockets whizzing,
speedy soaring,
star-bursts pouring,
bangs and crackles,
children’s chuckles,
treacle toffee,
soup or coffee,
cascade fountains,
sparklers drawing
neon letters in the air –
dancing – disappearing,
whirling Catherine wheels –
sparks emitting, spitting.
Sleepy yawning,
into bed with smoky smell,
now rest well,
fast asleep,
dreaming deep,
of popping patterns colourful.
Pleasanter than Halloween,
– light discloses what’s unseen, ,
bright and cheerful, clear and clean,
annhilates a darkness blot.
We may not understand the why
of what occurred in days gone by,
about that unsuccessful plot,
but note that use of bombs and force,
is not the way to change the course
of governments with all their mix
of laziness, hard labour wise,
fair leadership, mistakes and lies,
(like Mums, they’ve duty to decide
– with some humility applied –
if things we want must be denied,
and what seems for the best).

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
This is full of history and good advice as well as a good description of bonfire night. I really enjoyed reading it.
