Flashes in the night,
faintly light the bedroom …
rumble … how far?
again …awhile … again …
when will we here hear rain?
Suddenly the sound of water
sheeting down tumultuously,
loud, rushing
… delightful sound 
to all ears.
the earth soaks up its long-awaited
thirst-quencher.
Cities have to guide it
to the drains.

How many rainy days
before we have forgotten our longing?

Enjoyed this very much, Rhiannon. Makes me realise how lucky we are here, now, that it has rained every week since April. You convey really well the relief and excitement of an end to long dry weather

Thank you, Di. We have learnt to appreciate the needed rain, but it is easy to get a bit tired of it if becomes rather continuous. Things aren't perfect in this life! But it is a good sound, and greenery is starting to return to grass (the weeds seem to survive longer than the grass – maybe deeper roots!)  Of course we appreciate the sunshine too when it is not too hot, and a good mix of weather.
