Remember, give thanks, pray …

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series] Remembrance Sunday

Widows, orphans, traumatised men:
wars leave damage yet again,
But when evil threatens, thrusts,
nations must defend, at cost.

Glad we are not under rule
harsh, despotic, fickle, cruel,
thankful, and appreciative
that in freedom we may live.

When they serve, in war engage,
often stress makes tempers rage,
bitter things are done and seen –
longings for the pure and clean.

So for those who serve now pray
God be with them every day
help them always find his peace,
and from war soon bring release.
