Why did He become a man?

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series] Hebrews 2
The Son divine became a man
to rescue – this His Father’s plan –
and understand our limitations
our weakness, struggles and temptations.
And so He could as perfect man
experience sufferings, which began
in leaving glory, finding scorn,
and tiredness, hunger, malice borne.
Then, sinless, He bore death instead
– it should have been that we there bled;
He bore the punishment for sin
– our sin, but judgment fell on Him.
Our perfect Priest He takes us in,
into our Father cleansed from sin.
Our Brother so destroyed death’s hold,
and we are in His eternal fold.
