Misty

Misty
is a dog. A Pyrenean specimen
once skirting the cow-herd like a pro,
kept them in line if going astray
and corralled them when day was done.
Those large brown eyes now look up
from his favourite porch where
resting is prime time. No longer to
prance by master’s side,
arthritis determining the stride.
On last legs this once tireless wonder
knows an evening will say goodbye,
and the only thing she’ll be able to chase
is the memory of wild outdoor times.
