Muddy Me Up
Nice to be almost five
with your feet in the sand
dumping pails of water
making it cool,
covering toes in the mush.
This is good
this is great
and he runs back and forth
where water sits
trapped in a plaster sheet,
outdoor yard its residence
and the plastic jug
a haven for more scooped-up water.
So much fun for almost five,
grandpa baking in the sun
watching little Spencer grow
into big Spence.

creating stories and poems. Writing from
a grandfather’s point of view is also fun.”
