Okay to Grow Older

Not much energy
left these days
when I am
the caboose
with legs once
dancing
and prancing,
now a slow shuffle
leads me to
the dinner table.

I keep testing
my mind
on checkers and
chess with
anyone left to
play,
barely able
to creep
up the stairwell.

The best I can do
is make it to
the bathroom on
time,
an achievement
worth writing about.
