Sergeant Walker sighed deeply as he studied the figure before him: a haughty, middle-aged woman who met his weary stare with a gimlet eye.
She faced charges of criminal damage after having run amok with a permanent marker, fervidly correcting those street signs which failed to meet her impeccable standards of punctuation.
On being accosted by a bewildered policeman, she had delivered an impassioned lecture on the decline of the English language.
This was the fourth such case this week – and Walker knew the inspiration for the crimewave.
'Bloody Lynne Truss' he muttered, as the indignant criminal was taken away.

I am really missing something as I have never heard of Lynne Truss but I will seek out some information. Anyway I got the message and thought it was very funny.

I found this amusing.
I found this amusing.
"...haughty, middle-aged woman who met his weary stare with a gimlet eye..."
I think she should be let off.
PS. Lynne Truss, she of the "Eats Shoots and Leaves"
On this site I rely on insert for my punctuation, I have learned a lot from my mistakes.
