Anchor

The plastic flagstones
support me
as I sway.
Surrounded by friends,
yet lost
in my panic.
The paper I hold.
I roll it
so tightly.
My anchor,
salvation,
enemy of my own making.
In the lights
you are far away.
I am cut off.
The laughter too loud.
You can't hear me
up there on the screen.
They're turning off
the camera.
Thankyou, Goodnight.
Then you're here
and it's fine.
It's quiet inside.
I can hear myself think
and become less numb.
Hold me love.
