Blue

Blue eyes watched equally blue drops roll down a foggy glass pane.
The figure had been sitting on her blue bed, staring at the sky's
tears, tracing them down her window with a slim finger as they fell
uniformly. The rain was coming down in blue sheets of water. One after
the other, as if the raindrops had been trained to roll down windows
perfectly, they fell. A serene smile graced her lips, as it always did
when she let her blue eyes watch the blue drops; it was almost a
tradition for the rain lover. There she sat, on her blue bed, for an
hour of peaceful watching.
The sky stopped crying when the digital clock flashed 1:32. The smile
on Leila's lips curled into a childish grin. She ran out of her blue
room, down the hard maple staircase like a crazy person, and out her
front door, slamming the door behind her. Blue eyes scanned the street,
trying to find the largest puddle on the block, however all Leila found
were small reflective pools. Her legs carried her as fast as they could
to a small puddle, probably the size of her foot, in front of a house
that was under construction. Once near it, she jumped up and landed in
the small pool, and SPLASH! Water flew up in all directions, soaking
her leg and the jean shorts she wore. Giggling quite loudly, Leila
continued down the street, hoping to find a puddle that would cause a
tsunami when jumped into.
Leila ran down the street, smiling all the way, seeing that some
neighbors were sticking their heads out from behind large velvet window
curtains to watch her enjoy puddle jumping. Most smiled and shook their
heads. Some had known Leila since she was only a young child, and she
was a puddle jumper even back then. The light clack-clack of flip-flops
against pavement was the indicator that Leila was about to run by,
smile, wave and continue running, occasionally jumping in a puddle
along the way. All the neighbors learned to just wave back and smile at
her, regardless of what they thought. Leila had followed that routine
for her entire puddle-jumping career and would continue to follow it
until she died or moved out of Lomond Drive; whichever came
first.
Eyes scanned the street, still looking for the puddle she had been
looking for during her entire puddle-jumping career. She ran to a
cul-de-sac and stopped in awe. It was just sitting on the street. The
perfect puddle. Creeping up on it, hoping it would not run away (for
she knew that puddles were quite elusive), Leila gazed at her new love.
The puddle stretched from 520 to 524 Lomond, spanning four acres. The
blue flip-flops stopped at the edge of the puddle. Blue eyes scanned
She walked a ways backwards from the perfect puddle, making sure the
perfect puddle didn't go anywhere, and stopped. Blue eyes temporarily
closed as Leila sighed.
"Thank you." She said under her breath. The puddle jumper opened her
eyes, and then began her run. As she ran her flip-flops slapped harshly
against the pavement. Keeping her smile, she jumped up as high as she
could in the air and came down hard and fast into the water of the
puddle. SPLASSHHHHHH! The water rose above her head like a tidal wave.
The water, abiding by gravity's law, came down over Leila's head,
thoroughly soaking the blue-eyed puddle jumper, making her laugh ring
out throughout the neighborhood. After she was fully wet from the blue
water, she sat down in the puddle and began splashing around, kicking
her legs up and down, giggling the entire time. The water jumped up and
came back down, further soaking Leila. The serene smile soon was on her
face again, and she just sat in that puddle, and skimmed the surface of
the puddle with her palms, enjoying the smooth, mirror-like feel.
Only one set of eyes observed that wondrous jump. Those eyes had been
peeking out of a window squarely in front of the perfect puddle. The
person slowly walked down her stairs after seeing Leila splashing
around and quietly sneaked out the door. Riana came out of 522 Lomond
Drive, dressed in jean shorts and a blue shirt, purposely mimicking the
outfit Leila wore. She shuffled over to the puddle and the puddle's
owner, and asked, "Why are you sitting in a puddle?"
Leila opened her eyes, looked up at the five-year-old and smiled. "My
inner child talked to me last night." The forty nine-year-old replied.
"It wanted to play."
Riana tilted her head to the side, looked back down at the perfect
puddle and thought for a second. "Oh." Her blue eyes met Leila's. "Can
I play too?"
