Midnight Meeting

The room feels so cold as if there is a ghost lingering around, life felt strangely uneasy. Tony restlessly sleeps in his bed surrounded by wool blankets that his father bought from the market last year. His eyes eventually open, although still too stuborn to remain that way. Tony's skin is goose-bumped from head to toe while he stares at the dark fireplace.
"Its freezing in here, the fire must have died out," Tony whispers to himself. His breath freezing as it comes in contact with the air.
He slowly walks over to the closet, as if he was sleepwalking, to refuel the diminishing flame. A door creeks open revealing the empty closet accompanied by a gust of frigid air. His spine tingles as the gust brushes past his bare skin, again leaving him uneasy. Tony puts on his winter robe to go get more firewood to rid himself of this feeling.
"Geez, I thought it was cold inside," says Tony while leaving his house, realizing how absolutely freezing this particular night was.
It is so incredibly quiet in the forest, that Tony's footsteps seem louder than a hammer hitting an anvil. The same feeling when everything you do seems louder by tenfold, only because of the close attention to detailed sound. His heartbeat keeps the pace of his footsteps. He continues walking, picking up sticks for kindling and putting them into his pack, a cold mysterious feeling draped upon him. A sensation familiar enough to him to trigger a memory.
At the blacksmith one day,Tony felt this same feeling after washing his hands off. And when he wakes up in the morning, occasionally he feels this same feeling, almost like someone is spying on him constantly. The same feeling when you think someone is right behind you. The feeling that being alone will be so uncomfortable that you long for company, for someone to just be with you.
Tony and his father know very little about their unique gift, and do their best to avoid the public from knowing, so they train themselves to ignore the lifeforms they see. Most of them are little squigglies that float around objects. Tony thinks of these objects as he thinks of his own house. They seem to shelter these cute little squigglies. Despite his lack of knowledge of them, he is incredibly intrigued by them. Tony strives to gain a greater understanding of what they may be. He has endless curiosity.
Tony whispers to himself, "There are a lot of these things around this log."
Tony sees little worm-like creatures floating around as if the air is water to them. He picks up a few sticks surrounding the log, and the life forms scatter away like fleeing ants. When Tony rests his hand on the log, a tingling sensation litters his nerve endings within his hand. Soon after, another life form floats out of a nearby tree, bigger than the last few he saw. It has three spheres spinning around one another connected by what looks like a thin bar of light.
A mysterious voice appears within is mind saying, "Vita Uti?"
"Who is there!?" Tony questions in an uneasy tone.
"I apologize, i meant not to scare. I ask, do you wield essence?"
"Essence? How does one hold the intangible?"
"Little do you know holding the intangible is more closely related to reality than yourself."
"Who are you?"
"The Observer named us Vitai. We are the pure essence of life which live on a plane of existence that is merged with yours. We interact and influence your plane, and only if we have matured enough may we do this."
"Your people have a name, do you?"
"Call me Serius."
"Why have you revealed yourself to me? I have seen millions of your kind, yet not one has interacted with me." questions Tony while staring at the life form morphing morphing from a sphere the size of his hand, into a clear human shape. The human-shaped light has the features of a human, but details beyond the basic shape of a human body are absent. It is now more clearly noticeable that this being is female, or at least wishes to be seen as such. All that remains is the outline of a woman with blinding blue light encasing the curves of her newly found shape.
"Our species strives to become more like yours. We do this by merging, although we don't know why it started this way, and some of us strongly disagree with it. He tells me do teach all of these ways."
"Who is 'He'?"
"He is a figure known to none, seen by none, and heard by none. The only information i can give, i that he is apart of something unfathomably larger that anything we can conceive in our pathetic minds. He tells me little about himself, but much more of the world we share. I do not know how he communicates, the ideas just form into my being, as if i came up with them myself. However, i have no memory of forming these ideas. They feel void, or unwanted, in my mind. It scares me.
"What exactly do you need from me? Is this some sort of proposition? What exactly do i get out of it?"
"Little one, you are small and knowledgable. A human with both strengths and weaknesses. Although you may be content with your current form, merging will heighten your strengths and reduce your weaknesses. The frail structure of your body will be altered at will and the window you look from within your mind will be stretched wider for clear visions." Serius's image flickered at the end of her idea.
"I suppose i benefit greatly, but what of you?"
"I live in an intangible world. Our race seeks to have the feelings of touch, vision, smells. I wish to dream. I wish to coexist with a host. We spend every moment of our existence trying to sustain ourselves in the split plane we are trapped within."
"I guess i could help out, what do i have to do?" Tony says, but before he finished talking the Vitai before him disappeared. He felt a sensation foreign to him within his eyes that made him felt at ease. Tony grabs the firewood at his feet and returns to his home wondering what exactly happened. The unsettling feeling leaving him alone dispersed, he now feels in company.
Back in his bedding, Tony falls asleep before he had a chance to put the logs on the fireplace. Despite the cold, he slept deeply and dreamt that night of a woman wearing a long light blue dress. She was walking through an infinite forest, slowly getting further from Tony's vision of himself. Tony attempted to catch up with the woman, but no matter how hard he tried to change the course of his dream, never did he become closer. She continued to slip away from his grasp. So close, yet so far.
Just before he woke up, the woman appears behind him, staring at him with a blank face, and says, "You are never alone."
