Boomerang

how can I sleep
knowing I have to release
my young into the
wilds of civilisation
knowing that I must
allow some independent thoughts
into their unripened minds
will they forget me?

how can I sleep
knowing there will
be tears along the
pathway to adulthood
where many founder
and wish to revert to
childhood
will they still need me?

how can I sleep
knowing the dangers
that will be
unleashed on ones so young
leaving them exposed
will they turn to me?

how will I sleep?

by remembering
that like a boomerang
the only way they will return
is if I let go
