First date nerves, what should I wear?
It's been quite a while, will she even care?
Has she changed or does she still look the same?
Will it be a different person but with the old name?
No, she looks great and hasn't changed a bit,
So the hours pass as we talk while we sit,
Her long flowing hair has kept its copper shine,
The speech and drinks flow, it's all going fine,
From eight till nine then way past ten,
I laugh then she smiles time and again,
The bow of her lips still soft as before,
She's told me it all but yet there is more,
I'm feeling content in the dim cosy room,
It gets later still and last orders loom,
Those eyes shine with life and captivate me,
Can't think of anywhere else that I'd want to be,
There's more to be said as we walk down the street,
My heart's nervous drumroll is now a slow beat,
We chat and we shiver in the cold winter night,
I've made it this far now I'll be alright,
Time to stroll back but it's not that far,
She'll give me a lift just get in the car,
More words are said as we drive through the town,
And still not a hitch, not even a frown,
We pull up to the house with goodbyes to be said,
She looks rather tired and should be in bed,
I make it brief so as not to tempt fate,
So far it's been perfect but its still not too late,
A hug and then leave, put the key in the door,
I'll see you again of this I am sure.
