a small city
in a forgotten corner
of the imperial U.S.A.

a little bleak
on a summer day;
now the wind is cold
and the sky
quite gray
Sun and birds
all have left;
the leaves are bright
but the trees bereft;
and cold as ice
will it be tonight
But why should I
(in my safe, warm lair)
about this winter
so much care?
Because without black,
there is no white...
and without darkness,
there is no light
And yet I confess,
I envy those
who look at a grave
and see a rose
Me, I see
the ice giants come,
and hear not the flute
but the fife and drum
