I just saw "Mystic River." It is truly a powerful work of genius.
True art is rare in our society. I only thank God that we have some.
Honestly, it's been a long time since I've been as affected as I
am.
Because, you see, I am David Boyle. We, the different, are persecuted
in this society. Some of us are martyred. Others just have our lives
torn apart, sometimes by the authorities, sometimes by the evil of
private men. I am a delegate for the different myself. Superficially,
I'm presentable enough. And I am quite articulate; one has to be in
order to get this society to hear the message that they have to.
Because you see, peace is so valuable. But there is a price that is
too high for peace. The truly wise do everything in their power to
persuade this society to become more moral. Because morality only
appears to be a word; it is in reality an open blade. The forces that
this society oppresses are noble and forbearing but pushed too far,
they arise as werewolves and they have their fill.
Maybe that's why you don't see so many great movies. Making a great
movies isn't just a semi-intelligent script, good cinematography and
some acting that's plastic instead of cardboard. No, a great movie is
blood on videotape.
But even a good movie in our society is a great rarity. May God uplift
us but only after he has scorched the wickedness from this species.
