Let You Go

I just can’t stand to see you leave,
Though we’ve never met before,
I shift my weight and hesitate
As you exit through the door.
Another wasted night I guess
Of beer stains on my shirt,
While you’re texting from a taxi cab,
I’ll drink away the hurt.
And in tomorrows haze I’ll gaze,
As another day awakes,
At the image of a man who’s down,
With the weight of bad mistakes.
I’ll nurse the curse of loneliness,
For the girl I’ll never know,
And though we’ve never met before,
I have to let you go.
