The Three Legged Dog

There’s a brand new arrival at the rescue pound.
Turbo’s his name and he’s now world-renowned.
He’s got the veterinary world in complete disarray,
The first ever documented three-legged stray.
A three-legged dog’s not a typical sight.
He’s evenly tempered and won’t bark or bite.
But what makes this stray an exceptional breed.
Is his incredible, mind-blowing three-legged speed.
Just one sniff of a rabbit or the sight of a cat.
And he’ll do zero to 60 in 4 seconds flat.
His tongue hanging out, his legs just a blur.
A jet propelled, rocket fuelled stray ball of fur.
Now when working with dogs good training’s essential.
And the guys at the pound could see his potential.
So they took Turbo out for a day at the races.
Pitched against Grey hounds he’d be put through his paces.
When the traps opened up poor Turbo just froze.
He just looked around blinking and twitching his nose.
The grey hounds bolted chasing the hare.
But Turbo sat down like he just didn’t care.
Just then through the corner of one lazy eye.
He spied the mechanical hare racing by.
He flattened his ears, arching his back.
And zoomed like a motorcar hugging the track.
He shot past the grey hounds with no sign of slowing.
Then swooshed past the hare and carried on going.
At 100 to 1 he’d won his first race.
But gave no sign of stopping or slowing the pace.
Turbo kept running past spectator’s cars.
Out to the street past restaurants and bars.
He overtook trucks, passed buses and trains.
Then raced to the docks passing ships and tall cranes.
He crossed the canal and ran passed the levee.
His breathing was hard now, his legs getting heavy.
He started to slow as he entered the park.
It was evening by now and was just getting dark.
Turbo continued onto streets he now knew.
Past butchers and grocery stores the dog flew.
Over the railroad, through fences he darted.
Back to the pound where the journey had started.
There at the gate his friends from the pound.
Greeted their favourite three-legged hound.
Two TV Crews and the press were on hand.
And news of the race graced every news stand.
Turbo the dog was a hero that day.
Now known as a world beating three legged stray.
His fame became global he ate steak every meal.
When the butchers shop gave him a sponsorship deal.
He carried on racing and carried on winning.
He was pictured on billboards posing and grinning.
The cash rolled in along with his fame.
And so did a lovely toy Poodle named Jane.
Turbo and Jane settled down in the hills.
And Turbo retired from his racing life thrills.
The pair raised a pup that looks rather odd.
He’s a three-legged racer they’re naming tripod.
