Wine and Song

I’ve drifted through days
In a fantastic haze
Of wine punctuated with song.
It felt pretty good
And try as I should
I’ve never found anything wrong.

But after a while
I was losing my smile,
Something was missing from life.
So I gave up the booze
And started to cruise
Those places to find me a wife.

I tried to be charming
But found it alarming
When I dated a woman from Hull.
She told me it straight,
I’d left it too late
I was now far too sober and dull.
