14h00: J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, £32.50
George Bernard Shaw described Peter Pan as:
“Ostensibly a holiday entertainment for children but really a play for grown-up people.”
I bought a programme for this show. Without a doubt the best show I have seen inLondon! The show was directed by Ben Harrison and, because it is Peter Pan, the crew even had a flying consultant for when the cast were literally flying above the audience.
The play was presented in a HUGE 360 degree circus tent, where the roof of the tent was used as a wall for 360 degrees of projected scenery from 10 cameras situated around the stage; from the ‘curtain raising’ to when Peter and his friends flew above us over the entire digital projection of London city from Kensington Gardens to Neverland, the combination of all the effects was magical. I felt like I was flying too. Unbelievable!
According to the programme:
“The first performance of “Peter Pan” took place on 27 December 1904 at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London to tremendous acclaim…In April 1929, J.M. Barrie gave the rights to his immortal classic “Peter Pan” to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and since then, the hospital receives royalties every time the play is performed in the UK...Over 100 years later, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Captain Hook and all their friends are still enchanting children and adults alike.”
I couldn’t agree more; the modern technology and phenomenal projections, puppetry and brilliant staging, combined with the wonderful story of Peter Pan kept me transfixed for the entire performance. When all the children joined Peter Pan to chant: “I believe in fairies”, it really was magical to bring Tinkerbell back to life again. I would love to be involved in this kind of theatre.
Actual diary entry:
Alright, I was having a great day – on my own! Until that vile, revolting piece of an animal stormed me at the door to this house. Why can’t they leave him IN THE GARDEN or the KITCHEN? There are doors that they can close, it’s not difficult. They used to be closed when Marie was here; why not now, especially when I made a point of asking them to? I had to go straight to my room so as not to be mauled by the animal, otherwise known as Spike! I’m so ticked off!
In addition to the dog’s free reign, I now stay in a house full of smokers. Ara, Dee, Martha and even Jay on occasion, all huddle outside the kitchen door whilst the windows are open. It’s horrible to have the smoke near food.
Think happy thoughts Shannan, think fairy dust! What’s making things worse is my new diet. My body is not taking to the no sugar, no dairy and no wheat or gluten story. I can’t take much more of the nausea and hunger. Lord please help me to be healthy again. Please.
