‘The Chaos Theory’ personified –
you and your room, when you left
this morning; violin case tucked
under one arm, school tie – gone AWOL,
in your haste to be somewhere yesterday,
or rather, your Grade Six exam...
 
I gaze in utter disbelief; mountains
more statuesque than the Eiger – piles 
of half-worn clothes.  Stacks of grubby mugs
therein, a totally ‘new to me’ species of pond life, 
thriving and seemingly doing well, plus the odd, 
partially sucked cola drop, stuck to the waste-bin.
 
Begin to sift through the debris – glance up 
at the clock. You’ll be playing your Mozart
piece by now. Cross my fingers and my toes;
stare out of the window.  Quite by chance, 
drifts on by, an arpeggio of butterflies...
 
And then, from underneath your bed,
two odd socks I’d been searching, high
and low for, cock a snoot at me. On my hands
and knees, pray it’s true what they say,
‘Good luck comes in threes’... on days
such as these.

Oh my goodness  - an arpeggio of butterflies! I can see the exact movement in a musical picture. I feel the tension in this, of waiting. And the rush at the start. Great writing is like painting and you are an artist, Tina.

Minor miracles out of nowhere shouldn't be missed!  lovely poem.  i used to think it was my children who messed up the house - now they're gone i realise it was me all along.  Lots of lovely memories reignited with your poem.

A poem to take you a way from the hurly-burly of life and concentrate on the important things.
