What a load of old rubbish!

Day-beds and sleigh-beds and forks fit for toasting,
pans so your chestnuts could get a good roasting,
tables that turned into sewing machines -
supposed to be very collectable things.
Of a Sunday,
cleaned the silver,
made it bright and shine -
in a couple of weeks did it over again -
all such a waste of time!
Hall-clocks and wall-clocks and Westminster chimers,
ran kind of slow but not bad for old-timers,
piles of old postcards all trussed up with string,
must have collected most any old thing!
On a Sunday
scoured the junk-shops
eyeing this and that,
bent on collecting collectable things -
buying a load of tat!
Armchairs that needed a bit of a stuffing,
leather settees in a dire need of dubbing,
bedsteads with knobs on and rusty old springs -
must have been mental collecting such things!
Every Sunday
Antiques Road-show
punters by the score
clamoured to cash-in the family silver
so prices went through the floor!
Warming-pans, what-nots, luminiferous lustres -
fed-up of flicking with old feather-dusters,
just stick them in auction and spend what they bring
but not on collecting collectable things!
Of a Sunday
do a boot-fair
be it rain or shine -
if my load of rubbish
is somebody's treasure,
the pleasure becomes
all mine!
