Liverpool ferry
paying old Bob
with bronze slummy
to sail scousers in the fog.
Coins on eyes are
life's last debt due.
The final penny spent
to carry you through.
Call it travelling money
to reach an enlightened state,
as if the afterlife were divided up like the USA.
I made the crossing
to the Mersey bank,
and made my deposit,
name and rank.
The Liverbirds actually fly here
and this land is the place I love.
