Chapter One:
I stood behind the counter at a clothing store in the mall called Aeropostale. It’s my favorite store to shop at, so I was more than ecstatic when I heard they had an open position as a desk clerk; it was only part time, but it’s perfect, because I’m a senior in high school. Of course, when I first went there to submit a job application, I won them over with my beauty and charming ways, and thus was there on the day that changed my life.
Forever.

It was around 10:00 at night, and I was about to close up, when a guy in all black (black sweatshirt bunched up to his elbows; black jeans; cute, black hair) walked up to the front window overlooking Victoria’s Secret, across from Aeropostale. His eyes were a dark, dark brown, which would resemble black if you didn’t look too closely at them. But it seemed as if I would have all the time in the world to stare at them carelessly, before he pulled up the black gun and aimed it right at me. Before I knew what was happening, a bullet had been shot, and had shattered the window. I then quickly ducked behind the front desk, knowing that I didn’t have a lot of time before he walked up to me and shot the bejeezus out of me.
I heard heavy footsteps, along with heavy breathing, coming towards me as the seconds passed by, and as my heart beat faster and faster. Once the footsteps had stopped in front of the desk, I dared a little peek towards the ceiling. The guy in black was staring down at me with his sharp eyes. I couldn’t help but stare back. He actually wasn’t all that bad looking; in fact, he was pretty hot. Really hot. I noticed a tattoo of a silver cross on the right side of his neck, right below his ear. Once he noticed me staring at it, he smiled deviously and pulled out his gun. He aimed it right down at me, making my heart stop beating for a few quick seconds. I held my breath and closed my eyes, waiting for the shot to be fired. After a minute of nothing passed by, I opened my eyes up, prepared to scream for help if he didn’t recede.
To my surprise, the guy had left. I slowly stood up, balancing myself by holding on to the desk. I looked around and noticed that the only thing that he had left behind so far was a shattered window and a scarred heart…
And a little, tiny, silver bullet that can cause a lot of damage if you put your mind to it.
I finally coaxed my shaky legs into taking me over behind the divider wall, standing tall behind the front desk. I checked all of the dressing rooms cautiously, with an open mind, trying to find out if I knew the dude or not. He seemed a little familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite place a name on him. He also didn’t seem to be very old, either. Maybe in his late teens, early twenties. I also found myself wishing that I could see him one more time, just to take a mental picture of him, and just to try and register his nice looks…
I stood before the entrance to the men’s room, contemplating on whether or not to go check for him inside. I didn’t really care about what it’d look like inside (I’ve seen the inside of the men’s room before; not nearly as clean as the ladies’); I was just worrying about running into the guy in black and getting my brain blown to pieces. After a few minutes, I finally decided to go check in the ladies’ room first. When I turned around to go look, I ran right-smack into the guy’s chest area. It was then that I had realized that he was a whole head taller than me. Part of me was wishing that I would have gone to check the men’s room first, but the other part was hoping that I could spend the rest of my life in that position. He smelled so good!
He yanked me away from him and pinned me against the wall next to the men’s’ room’s door. I gasped at the jolt of pain that was taking form inside of my shoulders and upper back. I stood there waiting for something to happen, waiting for someone to come in and save me.
It was then that I had finally figured out who he was.
