The Stolen Poppy

A symbol of remembrance past
Showing respect to those who fell
Has been hijacked by the political class
Happy to send more soldiers to hell
The upper class whose blood doesn’t boil
See money beyond the wounded and dead
No terrorists are hiding in barrels of oil
Fuck the bodies count the money instead
Working class young, angry and unemployed
Are told by government its discipline you lack
Sign up for the army where you’ll be deployed
To a land far away where you might not come back
To the grieving families of sons and daughters
Waiting at airports to put loved ones to rest
Think not of the lies or the mindless slaughter
Just wear a poppy proudly on your chest
Watch the celebrities on your TV
Pretend they give a shit about your grief
See every fawning hypocrite on the BBC
Praise government ministers in their belief
That war is necessary modern and cool
Its capitalism’s tried and trusted friend
With a history of never being the fool
Where no child of a politician needs to attend
And every November on Remembrance Day
See the Cenotaph become parliament
The hypocrisy is uniform in its moral decay
As is the painted sorrow and its fake intent
Was has never been for soldiers to fight
They’re just pieces of chess in the game
War is owned by those on the right
The ones who reap the fortune and fame
The poppy has been stolen from the brave
By thieves with blood covered hands
These bastards have never been enslaved
By the patriotism they sell on demand
