LOVES LAMENT
Loves labours lost
And the taste of victory is bittersweet
Your still enchained by a sense of failure
Although you're freed from
The chains of enslavement
You look back in anger
And then back again in disbelief
For the man in who you placed so much faith
Whose welcoming arms encompassed you with so much love?
Whose welcoming arms eventually became synonymous with fear?
Those fists which would beat you
Then gently wipe away your tears
Those legs that would kick into the soft flesh till you bled
Then wrap tenderly around yours in the act of love -
Making, you feel so low and downtrodden
Making you hate him with a vengeance and yourself even more so
And you took this abuse for many years
So many times you were ready to leave
So many times you held yourself back
Hoping with a blinding faith
That he would change
But he never did and you lost the hope
And now he's gone out of your life
And you cry angry tears that you no longer have to stifle
It ended the day you pointed the rifle
At his sleeping body, peaceful and content
In that one shot you fired
You erased a lifetime's brutality and torment
And no longer will you sing loves lost lament
For loves labours lost.
