Tales of Chiid: Farm Raid

The borderlands of Chiid have always been a somewhat inhospitable territory. The earth was like a shrivelled raisin. The sky was a gray sheet. Besides this, the Krag farms had always managed to survive these wastelands. One of these farms was run by an orc named Krag’Loc, 3rd son of Krag-Zot, who ruled the Krag Clan and all the northern wasteland with an iron fist.
Krag’Loc was in charge of a successful wheat farm on the Kragonian border. The land here was not as infertile as the rest of the wasteland, but was a huge risk due to constant human raiders. Raiders have always been attacking the farmstead but were always defeated somehow.
Krag’Lok wiped his forehead with his sleeve. The crops he was harvesting hugged the ground and seemed to not want to be picked. The work was long and tedious but had to be finished so it would make it to the Summer Market in Kragon. As he was about to get back to harvesting the crops, a farm labourer ran up to him panting. The labourer informed Krag’Lok of approaching raiders. Relieved that he did not need work anymore, Krag’Lok dismissed the labourer and went to arm himself for the coming offensive.
The wind howled while the guards stood stone still along the stockade. The sea of raiders were preparing to charge the farmstead and slaughter its occupants. The guard turned to Krag’Lok and asked, “Do you think we’ll win?”
He replied, “We’ll definitely kill one of them”
The raiders horn bellowed the call to charge. They fell on the stockade like a swarm of locusts. Musketeers fired and swordsmen engaged the raiders. Krag’Lok frowned as he realised that this delay would cost him the Summer Market. He then cheerfully thought to himself that there was always next year.
The fighting was harsh and the raiders attacks were endless. The orc guards were not skilled or armed well enough to fight off the raiders and seeing this, Krag’Lok called some of his more useful labourers and headed for a forested hill overlooking the farmstead.
He reached it and turned around to see the farm guards numbers dwindling.
“Our army looks like it’s in pretty bad shape,” a labourer said calmly.
“Well, time to even the odds,” Krag’Lok replied. With that, he revealed a contraption with a large lever on it. He cranked the lever which sent a spark trailing down to the farm. The spark reached a pile of barrels in the farm and BOOM! The whole farm and everyone and everything surrounding it was scorched and destroyed in a sheet of fire.
Without any threat of raiders, Krag’lok stood up and walked towards the burnt out farm and said to the remaining labourers, “Well, back to work, chaps.”
