Winter Trees

Winter Trees

When I say: "I like Winter trees"
They look at me strangely
And say:
"Oh no, we like them with leaves"

Am I not allowed to say:
"I like Winter trees"
Without being made to feel
Ill at ease?

Can't they see the gracefulness of Winter trees?
Are they oblivious to the sinuous beauty
Of branches, subtly coloured,
Patterned against the sky?

Can it be that my temperament
Is more receptive to Winter trees
While they prefer the flamboyance
Of leaves?
