Coming Out: Lina

The evening began with singing and the oppositional guest here and
there. It had been a warm day and, I can only guess, everyone was
enjoying the cool riverside air let in through the living room window.
Our spirits were high and our glasses were nearly empty (Let me
apologize here for any mishaps in this and every other story, if there
are any. As we all know, I'm not a writer - I'm writing what I
remember!). This night was one of Lina's acclaimed "Margarita" nights.
They will always be remembered. The duet "When You're Gone" by Bryan
Adams and Mel C. comes to mind. I will always remember Ms. MacDonald.
Her very essence is a combination of sweet humor and finely chopped
wit. If her flavor at all compares to her talent, she's worth an
eternity's wait in the restaurant of life. While taking a break from
the singing I went in search of Lina only to find her slaving over a
hot stove. I'll forever remember the aroma that surrounded us in that
moment. Conditions were met; clarity was found. I've always connected
with Lina (as well as Daina and my mother) in a special way. I have
watched them go through hell and back and they'd still manage to put on
a smile when I saw them. Love whenever you can; live for those you
love. Lina was making nachos - the smell of olives and sour cream mixed
awkwardly around us. I don't know what happened at that moment; lest
some divine force stop me I just stood there and took a deep breath.
Lina paused and looked at me. She then smiled and said "is anything
wrong?" I smiled back and replied in the negative. I had a few nachos
as she scooped some onto plates. I ran my fingers through my hair (as I
do when I'm nervous).
I told her. She smiled. She welcomed me into her arms.
I love you Lina.
Conditions were met; clarity was found.
