Cindy flies into the dark, deep blue sky with her red nightgown. The moon lights up her white, skeletal figure. She grabs the blade of the moon and starts to laugh deliriously. Her laughter echoes through the night.
I awake. How long have I been asleep. I need to get to work.
-You're really late.
My boss says.
-First time in 5 years.
My mind is incredibly clear. Man discovered fire by rubbing two sticks togther. Perhaps when Man saw lightning strike a tree and light a fire, he began to think that there was fire in the tree, in the wood. Consciousness, what was it? Could it be created by two things being combined together? Body and Soul? Organic Chemistry and Electromagnetism? Or was God Original Consciousness, bestowing Consciousness on all living things? I did not want to create the Original Consciousness of God though. I wanted to create the Consciousness of Pure Mind, a purely logical, super machine that was also a living thing -- a pure, unadulterated brain.
-The work your team has done on Olivia is remarkable. She was able to solve an incredibly, complex mathematical equation. She may win the Fields Medal.
-It's really beginning to open up. I'm just getting a sense of what the Mind is.
-You've done a lot of work today. Perhaps you should get some rest. Go home.
What is happening to me? What is this Magic Shampoo? Is it some kind of hallucinogenic that works when you apply it to the body and hair? What happened last night? What happened to Cindy?
The work at Microsoft is progressing quickly, but AI is still a machine. It has to be told what to do. It has to be programmed. It mimics a stiff, human personality. It is still an It. It occurs to me that AI, in the end, can only be a slave of elite human minds. Then again, what was the point of creating AI that was just like human beings with their weak emotions and needs? It would just reproduce the answers that we already had. AI has to be the Pure Mind and it must not be the slave of elite minds. AI has to answer only to the higher goals of the human species. What were these goals? Who determined what these higher goals of the human species were if not the elites? Would it be determined democratically?
